RACE stands for Redland And Clifton Energised. It is our local community project inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is a series of events - physical, fun, and educational - for all ages.  They tap into the excitement of the 2012 Games and are shaped by the same values.

Redland Park URC has joined with St. John's School, our local Cubs and Scouts, and local athletes to run the project.  It is very much a local partnership involving gifts and abilities from within and beyond the church.

The Launch event is on October 2nd 1.30 - 4.30 pm at 3 different locations:  our church, Redland Park URC, the local gym and St John`s School followed by a Question and Answer session with local Olympic hopeful Ryan Scott, a 4 x 100m relay Gold medallist in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

There will be more events all the way up to the Games in July including a "Bloke`s" breakfast with exercise, food and a Q and A with Olympians. Also on the agenda: A Fun Run in May; Community Games in June/July; Olympians visiting St John`s School; Olympic veterans reminiscing; and a tea dance.

We believe the values of the Olympics and Paralympics are very positive and similar to those of the Christian faith.  We also think there is a connection between sport and emotions/mental well being.

RACE will, we hope, help us to build relationships with the local community both as a church and as individuals.

For more information and a timetable of events go our RACE site: http://racenergised.tumblr.com/  It will be regularly updated and will keep you in touch with everything we are doing.
