Energy Minister Ed Milliband paid a surprise visit to Redland Park to see our solar panels and hear more about the green campaigning the church has been doing.

He took the opportunity during a visit to Bristol to come to Redland Park and climb up onto the roof with Minister Rev Dougie Burnett for a close up look at the 48 panels which make the church the biggest micro-generation site in Bristol. The solar panels provide enough power for much of the church lighting.

The church have also launched a campaign to switch off unnecessary lights, improve draught proofing and keep heating to a minimum.

The panels were installed with the help of grants from the Low Carbons Building Programme and EDF and are the latest stage of plans by Redland Park to cut their carbon footprint.

The solar panel launch was the start of several months of "Green" activities leading up to the major climate change conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.

Ed Milliband had already learnt of Redland Park`s green campaigning when he met up with Dougie Burnett and others from the church church at the Operation Noah Day of Action at Victoria Tower Gardens when we took 20 Year 5 children up to 10 Downing Street.

Redland Park has also recently organized two public lectures on Climate Change aimed at encouraging people to look at how they can reduce their carbon footprint using simple methods.  Links have also been established with local campaign groups.
